Our Incubator is the new learning arm of Sustainable Valley. We support startups and existing businesses by facilitating innovation to create viable business solutions that focus on addressing social and environmental issues.
While guiding businesses to address challenges in our community, by providing activities, programs that will create social and economic value in meeting needs across diverse sectors and stages of ventures.
Starting in August 2019 we will offer a unique learning experience to local startups which are globally relevant, built to scale and with tangible impact models that are integral to the way your business is oriented.
IN 2019 SUSTAINABLE VALLEY IS ASSISTING START-UPS AND EXISTING BUSINESSES BY EQUIPPING THEM WITH RESPONSIBLE ENTREPRENEURSHIP SKILLS THAT AIM TO CREATE A BETTER FUTURE FOR OUR REGION.
Maybe you have a great idea, or maybe you have the drive to help someone else get their idea off the ground. Your local community group might be looking for new ways to secure funding and build partnerships, but keep thinking, ‘How do I start? What do I do next?’ Don’t procrastinate! Our Incubator workshops may be what you are looking for. Sustainable Valley Incubator program is for those who are passionate about learning the foundational skills to create a sustainable business with purpose.
The course is a practical learning experience where participants will gain knowledge to help build and nurture a sustainable business idea. By combining your passion with our experience, we will focus on developing skills through the stages of developing your business idea; shaping your idea, gaining funding and demonstrating your impact in telling your story. Get serious and turn an idea into a live venture through tailor-made sessions from August to December at Sustainable Valley.
During a 9 module program, hear from experts, successful entrepreneurs and discover resources to draw upon within the community. Additionally, program delivery will comprise online videos, interviews and face-to-face consult support for participants.
Participants will attend 9 fortnightly workshop sessions (approx. 2-4 hours in duration) commencing in August, 2019. Sustainable Valley will also offer face to face consultations, tools, resources and mentoring support during the course of the program.
9 x week fortnightly modules commencing in August of 2019. Dates and timeframes to be advised. Minimum 2 hour sessions to half day.
An application process will be required to qualify entry to the program. You will need to demonstrate that you are looking to develop a viable business that will operate for environmental or social benefit. Spaces are limited to 15 people, so be quick to apply.
This project received grant funding from the Australian Government in 2018.
Q: What is a social entrepreneur?
A: A social entrepreneur works to drive their organisation or company towards creating both social impact and commercial value through the use of existing infrastructures and organisational capabilities.
Q: Does my organisation need to have DGR status to be eligible for the Impact Incubator?
A: No, it is not necessary for your organisation to have DGR status to be eligible.
Q: Can I still participate in Impact Incubator if I am not based in Byron?
A: If you are successful and matched with a mentor team it is preferable that you are able to travel to Byron Bay for each workshop. Virtual pitch presentations may be available pending venue and technology availability.
Q: What is involved in pitching my social enterprise idea?
A: If you have been shortlisted from your initial application, you will be notified of the Impact Incubator pitch day details in Byron Bay. Pitches need to be less than 5 minutes and each pitch will be followed by a 10 minute Q&A with the judges. Note: The use of PowerPoint is not permitted but you are invited to bring along any items that will help you present your idea or project in an interesting and engaging way.
Q: What if I am unable to pitch in person?
A: Virtual pitch presentations will be available for those shortlisted outside of the greater Sydney region.
Q: Who is involved in selecting Impact Incubator participants
A: Sustainable Valley administers the Impact Incubator program and oversees the shortlisting of applicants to progress to the pitching phase. Sustainable Valley also sits on the judging panel for pitches and grant recipient selections, in partnership with sector experts and the Sourdough Business Pathways business mentors.
Sustainable Valley is a partner of Northern Rivers Together, which is a voluntary collaboration of 15 regional partners all committed to the issue of youth unemployment. The Northern Rivers Together is a non-profit regional Collective Impact initiative designed to bring build a whole-of-community approach focused on young people aged 8-29 years in the Northern Rivers to prepare the next generation for the future world of work. We are building engagement, enterprise learning and developing skills and provide an enabling environment and ecosystem for entrepreneurship.
